Firewalking and glasswalking have become popular activities at hen and stag parties, as couples dare to try something "more challenging".

According to HenandStagSligo.ie, the activities are good to overcome fear and get rid of any last minute pre-wedding jitters.

"We've noticed parties are increasingly looking for something more adventurous and different. Walking on fire or glass definitely ticks this box and we have already seen huge interest in it from groups booking for 2017," says Fergal Quinn, who runs HenandStagSligo.ie.

"The fear of the fire is worse than the fire itself. But you’ve got the right group of people, it can make a difference. While it has a traditional background, hens and stags  do it for the craic; it’s not a supernatural thing," said Peter Craig, who oversees both activities.

During the challenges people walk across a fire bed of red hot burning coals with temperatures soaring above 500 degrees.

Peter told Independent.ie that the trick to firewalking is "walking very briskly", while glasswalking is slow and careful.

Groups are trained to undertake the challenges in a safe manner before starting.
