Innocent occupants of a house firebombed by "idiots" in a case of mistaken identity have been treated for smoke inhalation.

The incident, yesterday morning in Drogheda, Co Louth, was the third firebomb attack in a week in the town, as feuding gangsters continue to cause mayhem.

Members of the Owen Maguire faction are being investigated for the attack, which left a woman and other occupants of the house traumatised.

At around 1.30am, the property in Rathmullen Park was hit by a petrol bomb while a number of people were inside.

A downstairs window of the house was smashed and accelerant poured inside before being set alight. No serious injuries were reported and the fire was extinguished before emergency services arrived.

Some damage was caused to the front living room.

"Gardaí believe the gang was planning to target another house in that estate but the idiots involved in this got the wrong house," a source said.
