Fine Gael party member dies after car crash
A PASSIONATE Fine Gael member has died after the car he was driving was involved in a collision with a lorry.
The party in Kilkenny is in mourning following the death of Mathew 'Mattie' Aylward (56), from Ballyfacey, Glenmore.
Mr Aylward (below) joined the party over 35 years ago and always campaigned for its candidates.
He died on Sunday when the car he was driving was in a collision with a lorry on the N25 at Luffany, Slieverue, Mooncoin, Co Kilkenny, at around 9.15pm.
He was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital but pronounced dead a short time later.
Witnesses have been asked to contact Mooncoin garda station on 051 8965500.
Funeral arrangements had not been finalised last night.
