File prepared for DPP in Halloween burns probe
GARDAI investigating the incident which left a medical student fighting for his life when his Halloween costume went up in flames are preparing a file for the DPP, writes Caroline Crawford.
Matty Sheridan (21) from Cabinteely, Co Dublin, suffered 80pc burns when the homemade sheep costume he was wearing was engulfed in fire at a Galway nightclub last week.
The NUI Galway student remains in a critical condition in the national burns unit of St James's Hospital in Dublin.
Gardai are set to interview 400 witnesses who were in the club in the coming weeks. They will then submit the file to the DPP.
Officers have also trawled through CCTV footage of the incident, which occurred at Halo nightclub in Abbeygate Street in the city. A second NUI Galway student, who is not known to Mr Sheridan, presented himself to gardai last Thursday. However, no arrests have been made.
