Fifth man arrested and firearm seized following home burglary

Gardai have arrested a fifth man following a burglary at a house in Dunlavin, Co Wicklow yesterday afternoon.

The man (in his early 20s) was arrested shortly after midday today during a search operation near Blessington.

He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Blessington Garda Station.

Yesterday, four men were arrested and gardai recovered a firearm.

Shortly before 2pm yesterday Gardai received a report of a burglary at the Dunlavin house.

The owner of the house returned following an alarm activation and disturbed a number of intruders who fled the scene. 

During a follow-up operation Gardai assisted by the Air Support Unit arrested four men a short distance away.

A shotgun and a small amount of cash taken during the incident were recovered.

The four men, aged in their late teens and early 20s, were taken to Bray Garda station where they were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. Three of the men were expected to appear before a sitting of Tallaght District Court this morning charged in connection with the incident.

The fourth man was released yesterday evening and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
