Field combed for bullet that killed guns-haul man

GARDAI are carrying out a search of a field in a bid to find the bullet that killed loner Alan Desmond, writes Tom Brady.

Officers have been trying to locate it and its casing since his body was found by children near Killinarden Hill in Tallaght, on Saturday evening.

He had been was shot in the head, but the bullet then exited and has not yet been found.

Mr Desmond (37), from Kilclare Avenue, Tallaght, had been missing for 19 days.

Gardai believe he was shot dead after being lured to a meeting with former associates who had persuaded him to store a haul of guns and ammunition for them in his garden shed.

Three rifles, a revolver and two sawn-off shotguns as well as a large amount of ammunition were seized by gardai on April 30 when they arrived at the house to search for drugs.
