Fiach's curtain call

Former senator Fiach Mac Conghail departed the Abbey Theatre last night after 11 years acting as artistic director.

Mr Mac Conghail will now take up his new post as chief executive of the Digital Hub Development Agency.

Dana defamation case

A JUDGE hopes to give his decision in December on a High Court case taken by former presidential candidate Dana Scallon seeking that her sister and niece put up money to cover the legal bill which would arise should they lose their defamation against Ms Scallon.

The defamation action arises out of a 2011 TV interview when Ms Scallon was asked about allegations of sexual abuse made against Dana's brother John.

Teenager avoids jail

A DUBLIN youth caught with almost €8,000 worth of cannabis has been spared a custodial sentence.

The 16-year-old boy, who claimed he was carrying 350 packages of cannabis to pay off a drug debt, was placed on supervised probation for 12 months.

Special polar plunge

Footballer Dean Rock has signed up to take part in Special Olympics Ireland December fundraiser swim 'The Polar Plunge'.

The sports charity is gearing up to send 26 athletes to Austria next March, enabling them to compete in the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2017.
