FG party officials to “speak” to ‘horseplay’ TDs as Kenny stays tight-lipped
Fine Gael’s Tom Barry and Aine Collins will be spoken to by senior party officials following the ‘horseplay’ incident during this morning’s abortion debate.
However, Taoiseach Enda Kenny refused to comment on the incident which saw FG Deputy Tom Barry pull party colleague Aine Collins onto his lap in an incident which was captured on Dail camera.
"I have not seen the incident and therefore I am not going to comment on it," Mr Kenny said this morning.
"I didn't see it and I have no comment...it is a very serious debate and obviously we have had more discussion about the (abortion) bill in question than any other bill in probably the last 40 years."
However, senior party officials said that while the incident involved was "silly" and "clearly horseplay", the two TDs will be informally spoken to given the extreme sensitivities of the Dail debate in question.
The incident was witnessed by a senior Cabinet minister and they described it as "giddy" and "silly" rather than untoward.
They confirmed that Ms Collins took no offence at the time.
