FF councillor's firm given €10m

A company in which a Fianna Fail councillor is a director received contracts worth more than €10m, official figures released yesterday reveal, writes Greg Harkin.

SARK Construction, jointly owned by Letterkenny-based councillor Ciaran Brogan and his brother Brian, was paid €10m between 2000 and 2010 by Letterkenny Town Council.

The payments related to turn-key housing projects in three areas of the Co Donegal town.

Cllr Brogan, a town councillor and a Donegal County Council member, said he had declared an interest in all tenders and never took part in decisions or debates relating to them. All contracts were awarded after a public tender process.

Seven other firms were awarded contracts worth over €40m over the same period.
