Festival pulled over time constraints

ORGANISERS of an event which was to replace a major annual festival have blamed time constraints on its 11th hour cancellation.

The People's Festival, due to take place in Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin, at the weekend, was called off at short notice on Friday. In a message on the social networking site Facebook, the organisers said it was with the "deepest regret" they had taken the "11th hour" step.

In a statement the organisers said they said they took "full responsibility" for what they described as "the oversights involved in the planning which have led us to withdraw from the implementation of this festival".

Chairman of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, Councillor John Bailey, said more than 35 events had been held as part of the Dun Laoghaire Festival over the summer months, but the committee had run out of time and could not organise the planned People's Festival.
