Female pedestrian (60) killed when she was struck by car


A woman in her 60s was killed in Kerry when she was struck by a car while out walking tonight.

The accident happened at Longfield, Firies, Farranfore, shortly after 6.45pm today.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body has been removed to Kerry General Hospital where a post mortem will be preformed. The driver of the car was uninjured.

The road will remain closed overnight at the scene of the collision, pending an examination of the area by garda forensic collision investigators.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Farranfore garda station on 066 - 9764111, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any garda station.

Meanwhile, a male motorcyclist (29) has been killed in a collision with a car in Co. Westmeath.

Gardaí are investigating athe fatal accident which occurred on the N52 at the junction with Ballinlough Castle between Delvin and Clonmellon at around 5.30pm today.

The man was taken to Mullingar General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A post mortem is to be arranged.

The male driver of the car - who was the sole occupant - was uninjured.

The N52 is closed at the scene to facilitate for a forensic investigation, and diversions are in place.
