A YOUNG woman died yesterday after the car she was travelling in spun out of control and crashed through a wall.

The car narrowly avoided smashing through the front door of the house in Ballinvelty, Bishopstown, Co Cork.

Named locally as Elisabeth McEvoy (20), she was a front-seat passenger in the car. The driver -- a man in his 20s -- was also hurt but his injuries are not life-threatening.

Meanwhile, a 53-year-old woman was in a serious condition in hospital last night following a two-car collision at a notorious blackspot in Clare.

The male driver of a second car was also injured in the collision, which occurred at 3.30pm yesterday on the Miltown Malbay to Ennis R474 road.

In north Cork, gardai temporarily closed the Killarney to Mallow road after an accident at Kanturk junction. A man was rushed to hospital at 4pm. His condition is not understood to be life-threatening.
