Female cyclist (34) and driver (50s) killed in separate road collisions
A woman in her 30s has died after being hit by a car while out cycling with a group in Co Kildare on Sunday morning.
The victim (34) was understood to be at the back of the group when the accident occurred on the R408 from Rathcoffey to Maynooth.
The accident happened close to Rathcoffey church.
Her body has been removed to Naas General Hospital.
The male driver (late 20s) of the car, and the sole occupant, was uninjured.
The stretch of road was closed to facilitate forensics but has now reopened.
In a separate incident, a woman (50s) died after her car left the road and struck a tree in Co Galway on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at 8:30am on the Killimor to Kiltormer Road, off the N65, at Lisdeligney, Portumna Co Galway.
The woman was the sole occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at scene.
Her body was removed to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe.
A post mortem is to be arranged.
The road is currently closed to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and diversions are in place.
