Father of two dies in horror skip accident
A FATHER of two died when he became trapped between a skip and its hydraulic hoist, write Barry Duggan and Ralph Riegel.
Liam O'Connor (31), from Mountcollins, Co Limerick, was collecting a skip from McAuliffe's piggery at Fahaduff, Co Kerry, when the skip became dislodged. He died after he became trapped between the skip and the hydraulic hoist used to lift it.
Gardai believe the accident occurred after everyone on the premises had finished work on Monday evening because the dead man's body was not discovered until Tuesday morning.
The Health and Safety Authority confirmed an investigation was under way. Gardai said they were treating the incident as a tragic accident.
Mr O'Connor lived at Seconglass in Mountcollins with his partner Geraldine, son Matthew and daughter Katelyn.
Meanwhile, farmer Noel Crowley of Creagh, Baltimore, Cork, died in an accident after apparently becoming trapped by a tractor while working on Monday. It is understood he died from crush-related injuries.
Mr Crowley -- a father of one -- is survived by his wife, Mairead. He will be buried after requiem Mass today in Skibbereen and interred in Tullagh Cemetery, Baltimore.
