A father is fighting for life after both he and his 11-year-old son fell from a farming vehicle this afternoon.

The 47-year-old man was airlifted to Tallaght hospital after the accident in Shinrone, Co Offaly.

He was later transferred to Beaumont hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Gardaí say officers in Shinrone, Co Offaly were called to the scene of the accident at a house in Congort at approximately 3.45pm.

It is believed that two males were on a teleporter when they fell from it.

A teleporter is a farming vehicle, that is effectively a cross between a tractor and a forklift.

A garda spokesman confirmed that one male (47 years) was seriously injured and airlifted to Tallaght hospital. He was later transferred to Beaumont.

An 11-year-old boy, believed to be the older man's son, was also injured in the accident and taken to Tullamore hospital where his injuries are described as non-life threatening.

The Health and Safety Authority has been notified and inspectors are expected to attend the scene on Friday morning.
