The family of Gerry Ryan opened their hearts to pay tribute to the late broadcaster in the 'Gerry' documentary aired last night.

His five children, Lottie (24), Rex (21), Bonnie (18), Elliot (13), and Babette (10), were described as "the bedrock of Gerry Ryan".

Daughter Bonnie recounted how she sometimes forgets that her dad has passed on.

"It's like the little things when I have a really good day. I have to let dad know that it went really well, and ah . . . you can't let him know," she said.

His widow Morah said: "It would just not be possible to say that Gerard didn't do anything but love the children."

This was evidenced by countless contributions from her children which included eldest daughter Lottie recounting how her dad helped with her studies in university.

"He was so involved in everything, obsessed with us, it was ridiculous," she said.

While son Rex said: "I used to play football when I was younger and he was one of the dads who would be on the sideline on cold, disgusting Saturday mornings."

Rex Ryan described how difficult his father had found the marriage split in 2008 which resulted in him moving out of the family home. "It was a bit tough for him. When he was away. it was tough for him and he missed us all a lot," he said.

But sister Bonnie recounted how their dad was only a phone call away. "If you phoned he would drop everything to help you with your problem."
