Family of slain student travel to Japan for preliminary hearing
THE family of a young Irish student killed abroad are flying to Japan this afternoon in order to attend the preliminary case against a Christian musician accused of her murder.
Nicola Furlong (21), from Curracloe, Co Wexford, was killed after attending a Nicki Minaj concert in Tokyo, Japan, on May 23. She was found strangled in a hotel room.
The DCU student was on a year’s exchange programme in the country at the time.
Her father Andrew, mother Angie and 18-year-old sister Andrea have decided to fly to Japan to attend the preliminary hearing against American Christian musician Richard Hinds (19).
Ms Furlong’s family were due to board a flight to Japan this morning to attend the preliminary hearing later this week. A full trial is expected to be held later this year.
Fundraising events have been held in Wexford to help the family with their travel expenses.
