Family of slain student hope for early trial
THE trial of an American man for the murder of Irish student Nicola Furlong in Japan could take place as early as next March.
Ms Furlong, a student at DCU, was nearing the end of a year-long exchange in Japan when she was found dead in a Tokyo hotel room on May 24.
Her family in Curracloe, Co Wexford, have been told the trial of musician Richard Hinds will not take place before the end of this year.
A court has already decided that the 19-year-old, who is accused of strangling Nicola, will be tried as an adult.
Ms Furlong's father Andrew said he was waiting for more details about the trial in the coming days, adding he would travel to Japan for the hearing.
"Nothing is going to stop me going over for it," he said.
