Facebook must open hotline to curb bullying, say principals
FACEBOOK is facing further pressure to open a hotline for Irish schools to deal with cyber-bullying writes Katherine Donnelly.
Department of Education officials will meet representatives of the company tomorrow. The social media giant has already ignored a request from second-level school principals for a meeting.
School principals are increasingly worried about the misuse of Facebook and other social media sites and the damage it can cause to both students and staff. In its response, Facebook set out its general approach to safety and cyber-bullying, but didn't refer to the meeting request.
Education Minister Ruairi Quinn has said he is "very disappointed that Facebook has indicated that they will not deal directly" with the National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals (NAPD).
