Facebook friends to newlyweds in just eight weeks
IT TOOK just eight weeks for an 'Accept Friend Request' to become 'I Do' for a couple who hooked up on the internet.
Francis Mahon from Wexford married New Yorker Alyson Cramer just two months after they signed up as friends on Facebook.
The Irishman found his soulmate in New York thanks to their shared love of New York-based Celtic Rock band Black 47. The band -- named after the worst year of the Irish potato famine -- was formed in 1989 by Larry Kirwan and Chris Byrne.
Kirwan, the lead singer, regularly takes Americans on tours of Ireland.
Ms Cramer signed up for one of Kirwan's Irish tours in June 2009, on which she met Mr Mahon -- a devoted fan of Black 47 for years.
The couple got on well, but there were no sparks. By chance, they met a second time at a Black 47 concert cruise around New York harbour last September -- but still the sparks only smouldered.
Last February the couple came in contact again on Black 47's website.
This was third time lucky. Ms Cramer sent a 'friend request' via Facebook and they were soon chatting over the internet.
Just a few weeks later, Mr Mahon flew to New York to meet Ms Cramer for her birthday in March -- and this time their romance took off straight away.
The 10-day New York trip went in a flash -- and the couple realised they were made for one another.
Ms Cramer suggested they get married -- and that Mr Mahon could then relocate to New York.
"I was kind of taken aback. But then I realised it was the only practical way to advance the relationship. It really was (that) we either completely forget about a relationship or commit to it entirely," he said.
The couple exchanged wedding vows on March 22.
"I don't regret it for a second," the love-struck Wexfordman declared.
