Experts to review €280m north-south power plan

A PANEL of experts has been appointed to review the €280m north-south electricity interconnector, writes Edel O'Connell.

Energy Minister Pat Rabbitte last night announced the three members of the international commission set up to review the controversial project.

The interconnector would link electricity grids in the North and the Republic.

Supporters say it is needed to improve electricity competition by reducing the current constraints to the all-island electricity market.

The establishment of the commission follows the collapse, last June, of the planning process for the interconnector.

The members are power experts from Sweden, Norway, and Belgium.
