Experts probe mystery of 'Astrid' wreck
MARINE engineers will examine the engines and fuel tanks of the wrecked Tall Ship 'Astrid' over the next 48 hours to solve the mystery of her sinking.
The 95-year-old brig sank on July 24 after her engine failed and she was driven on to rocks between Kinsale and Oysterhaven off the Cork coast.
The wreck was placed on a floating barge by a huge marine crane and carefully towed to Lobster Quay in Kinsale early yesterday under the supervision of Atlantic Towage boss Sean Harrington.
The wreck will then be taken to a secure facility to allow Marine Casualty Investigation Board (MCIB) inspectors to conduct a detailed examination of the hull.
