Exclusive: Man arrested for attempting to mug a High Court judge
A man has been arrested by gardai investigating the attempted mugging of a High Court judge.
A security guard was headbutted as he grappled with the thief, who had jumped into a car, owned by Mr Justice Anthony Barr outside the entrance to the Four Courts car park.
The judge had stopped at the security checkpoint shortly before lunchtime on Sunday and was getting out of his car to speak to the security guard.
A young man, who had been passing by on the street, immediately jumped into the car .
But he was spotted by the guard, who reacted quickly and tackled the would-be thief.
During a struggle the guard was headbutted in the face but managed to hold onto the suspect while the gardai were contacted.
Officers from the nearby Bridewell station were alerted and arrested a 23-year-old suspect from west Dublin.
The suspect was later questioned about the incident and released.
