EU scrutiny to hold up new sunbed laws
THE long-awaited legislation to protect people from sunbeds is expected to face further delays as it comes under EU scrutiny for three months.
Health Minister James Reilly said the bill has priority drafting and Department of Health officials are working closely with the Office of the Parliamentary Counsel to complete the drafting .
The legislation will prohibit the use of sunbeds on a sunbed premises by those under 18.
It will also include a ban on their unsupervised use in a sunbed premises, control on internet sale or hire, mandatory notification to the HSE by sunbed operators, training for staff and the display of warning signs.
