Ethics law on political donors could change

Patricia McDonagh

TAOISEACH Brian Cowen yesterday said the Government would consider amending the ethics law to force organisations and individuals to declare where they got the money to pay for their political campaigns.

The admission comes in the wake of speculation over the funding of Libertas, Declan Ganley's organisation which played an instrumental role in the defeat of the Lisbon Treaty.

Pressure has grown on the Government to allow the law to provide greater transparency following an admission by Mr Ganley that he loaned Libertas €200,000.
