A STRONG emphasis on the impact of technology on the environment, evident in this year's Junior Certificate Metalwork (Materials and Technology) Higher Level paper was welcomed.
Donal Cremin of the ASTI and Scoil Phobail Sliabh Luachra, Rathmore, Co Kerry said the paper had a mix of traditional and more modern questions.
He said the link between technology and the environment featured in a number of questions, including one on the design of an environmentally friendly rubbish bin.
Mr Cremin said the paper overall was fair, if somewhat challenging.
Yesterday's paper was worth only 25pc of the overall marks, with the balance going on practicals and a project which are already completed.
This year the project involved making a vintage car, with questions relating to it on the paper, and Mr Cremin said students would have found it appealing.
Kenny Donagher, also of the ASTI, and Summerhill College, Sligo, described the paper as very well laid out, and said students would have been well prepared for it.
