Entries for science event at record high

SECOND-level students have caught the science and technology bug like never before, with a record number of entries for the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition in January.

Over 4,000 students from 362 schools all over Ireland will showcase their ideas through 1,879 projects for the 2013 exhibition, which will take place in the RDS, Dublin, from January 9-12.

In the technology category alone, entries have risen 24pc on last year, climbing to an all-time high of 370.

Education Minister Ruairi Quinn said research and innovation were critically important to the economy, and he commended everyone involved for providing a platform to stimulate and showcase Ireland's talent both on a national and international stage.
