Engineers building on a solid career path

IRISH engineers are buoyant about their prospects this year, with a new survey showing nearly eight out of 10 of them are feeling confident about securing employment.

The survey, carried out by Engineers Ireland as part of Engineers Week 2012, was revealed yesterday by Jobs and Enterprise Minister Richard Bruton at the Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics plant in Swords, Co Dublin.

Yesterday marked the culmination of a week-long event which saw 120 'open day' organised tours of businesses across Ireland.

At a manufacturing plant in Brinny, Co Cork, students were urged to consider engineering as a career choice.
