Enda Kenny didn’t ask HSE boss Cathal Magee not to quit
HEALTH Service Executive (HSE) chief executive Cathal Magee says his decision to resign still stands following a meeting with Taoiseach Enda Kenny this morning at Government buildings.
He said it was a courtesy meeting, where he explained why he was resigning and the Taoiseach did not ask him to change his mind.
Mr Magee’s resignation has caused controversy within the Government after Health Minister Dr James Reilly failed to inform the Labour Party about his departure.
Mr Magee said communications in the department are a matter for the department.
He also admitted there were the normal tensions with the minister, as would be expected in any job.
