Emigrants in web 'vote'

It's not the real thing but it's the closest emigrants will get to voting in next Thursday's election. The website ballotbox.ie is inviting Irish emigrants to have their say in who they want to succeed Mary McAleese.

Earlier this year, 5,000 Irish citizens abroad voted in an online general election run by the website.

With 3.1 million Irish passport holders and 800,000 Irish-born citizens living overseas, founder Brian Reynolds said he set up the site to highlight the disenfranchisement felt by many Irish people abroad.
