Eligible bachelors ... and Joe from beyond the grave
The Joe Dolan Mullingar Festival
Didn't get tickets for Oxegen this weekend? Fret not. An angel is looking down on you from on high.
His name is Joe Dolan and he has a rival music and entertainment festival going on in Mullingar.
Remember that moment at Coachella when Tupac was brought back from beyond the grave through the magic of holograms and was able to duet with Snoop Dogg? Well that exact same thing is happening next weekend, except instead of Tupac it will be Joe, who will serenade with his band from beyond the grave, and instead of a hologram they'll have a big screen at the Mullingar Arts Centre.
But not only is this going to be the showband musical seance of the summer, it also has a midlands answer to the Rose of Tralee: One of the highlights of the festival promises to be the (apparently oxymoronic) International Westmeath Bachelor Competition, which attracts eligible men from as far afield as Italy and Mauritius and is open to those "with or without a Westmeath Connection."
The ad for the festival features superheroes, strongmen and the father of Westmeath's current bachelor star, Niall Horan.
There must be something in the water in Mullingar.
