Limerick: Former Mayor Leddin secures second seat for Labour

Kathryn Hayes

Former Mayor of Limerick Joe Leddin has secured a second seat for the Labour Party on the new Limerick local authority.

Cllr Leddin was elected in the fourth count of the Limerick City West electoral area.

Earlier today 28-year-old former rugby player Frankie Daly won the first seat for the party however sitting Labour Councillor Tom Shortt has failed to retain his seat,

According to final tallies Labour's hopes of gaining a seat in County Limerick are not promising but the party is confident that Moldovan national Elena Secas will take a third seat for the party in the Limerick City East electoral area.

So far 19 candidates have been elected to the new 40 seat Limerick local authority.
