Limerick city electoral area: latest updates Kathryn Hayes

A SECOND Sinn Fein candidate has topped the poll in an electoral area in Limerick after a 22 year old college graduate was elected to the new local authority.

First time candidate Seighin O'Ceallaigh a University of Limerick graduate from Friarstown Grange Co Limerick, secured 1703 first preference votes in the Limerick City East electoral area.

Sinn Fein's Maurice Quinlivan topped the poll in the Limerick City North electoral area where he received nearly 25% of first preference vote.

Some six candidates have now been elected to Limerick City and County Council - half of them Sinn Fein councillors.

First time candidate Lisa Marie Sheehy (20) was also elected in the first count in the Limerick City North electoral area.

First time candidate for Fianna Fáil Shane Clifford was elected in the first count in Limerick City East while the party's outgoing councillor Eddie Ryan has also been relected in Cappamore-Kilmallock electoral area.

Independent Councillor Brigid Teefy was the first candidate elected to the new local authority after she topped the poll in this area.

Counting is continuing in three of the six Limerick electoral areas.
