Kerry electoral area: Killarney updates
INDEPENDENTS are making big gains in the Killarney area with early tallies indicating they've secured over half of first preferences.
But it is very early days with just 13 of the 54 boxes opened at the KIllarney Sports and Leisure Centre.
Early indications are that Danny Healy-Rae (Ind) is polling strongly with 24.33pc and Brendan Cronin (Ind) on 22.44pc.
Fine Gael's John Sheahan is at 7.58pc and the strongest of the Fianna Fáil candidates is sitting councillor John Joe Culloty at 7.46pc.
Labour's only candidate Sean Counihan, who sat on Killarney Town Council until recently and was co-opted onto Kerry County Council following the resignation of Breda Moynihan Cronin, has so far polled only 3.36pc.
The boxes opened are from outside the Killarney urban area where other candidates will be expected to make gains.
