A floating voter has finally revealed his true allegiance in the election campaign - to the environmentally-friendly Green Party.
Bertie the octopus has been a star attraction since he started swaying over political party motifs in the front window of a wine shop in Sandycove, Co Dublin.
Gerard Maguire, who owns 64 Wine, believes Bertie is an Irish cousin of Paul, the psychic octopus who predicted results of matches throughout last year's World Cup.
"He's been trained for weeks on the election but Bertie is still having some trouble understanding the PR system," he joked.
"If he doesn't get it right on Friday night, he'll be a starter in Cavistons restaurant on Saturday morning!"
Fianna Fail candidate for Dun Laoghaire Mary Hanafin was among those cheering on Bertie as he was lured out from behind a rock with some fish to make his prediction.
But the defiant sea creature gave the minister the eight tentacles by twice choosing the former junior coalition Green Party.
Mr Maguire said Bertie, owned by nearby Fish Antics, got a legion of fans over the last week.
"We've kids coming from all over the place with their mums and dads to see him," he added.
"But at the moment he's definitely still a floating voter though."
