Kerry North Fianna Fail TD Tom McEllistrim inspects the damage to his car

IT really is turning out to be Fianna Fail's car-crash election.

Tom McEllistrim was left bruised, bleeding and in shock after he was involved in a two-car collision yesterday.

But the hardy Kerry North West TD still managed to hand in his nomination papers ahead of today's 12pm deadline.

Mr McEllistrim was on his way to Tralee from his home in Ballymacelligott when the accident occurred at Ballyseedy Cross yesterday morning.

Mr McEllistrim's assistant, Sarah Thornton, who was a passenger, and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to Kerry General Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.

"It was a really frightening experience but I'm just glad no one was seriously injured," Mr McEllistrim told the Irish Independent.

Mr McEllistrim's car was badly damaged. He escaped serious injury, but suffered a cut to his left hand.
