We've had a cover of one of the country nightclub's biggest anthems and a real earworm from Limerick candidate Richard O'Donoghue... but this could be the best election song so far.

Donegal candidate Tim Jackson has looked to his name for inspiration and come up with an absolute clanger.

The Independent candidate has shared his video on Facebook as the General Election 2016 campaign begins.

The song is to the tune of country music legend Johnny Cash's 'Jackson' and cleverly alters the words to, 'We're voting for Jackson'.

"Carlsberg don't do campaign songs, but if they did... Full marks to the 'Starmix' band for putting this together," Mr Jackson wrote alongside the video online.

The music video features a mish-mash of Jackson at work chopping logs, photos from inside the country's A&Es, a host of memes featuring the internet favourite of cats and Jackson on a recent charity trip to Africa.

Everybody now: "We're voting for Jaaaaacksonn....."
