Mattie McGrath, dancing, in a pair of boxing gloves with his Tipperary opponents' names on them. Have we reached peak election video?

“Here comes the man in the van. He's the man we all know gets the work done,” the song begins and goes downhill from there.

The man in the van is right with the video featuring a veritable fleet of no less than four vote Mattie-branded election-mobiles.

Entitled 'Pizzagate' they song recalls the time Mattie was staging a bank sit-in protesting at repossessions when fellow TDs called him offering free pizza.

“Oh they called it pizzagate, they all found it funny somehow, who's laughing now?,” the song goes.

“It's election time and Mattie can stand tall and proud.”

Other choice lines include: “I do declare there are times that I felt sorry for the Taosieach sitting there with Mattie raising hell from the other chair.”

“Hard work and toil, when somebody's in trouble. Mattie goes that extra mile and everything gets sorted Mattie-style.”

The video features the Rock of Cashel and slow-motion Mattie walking through the constituency with canvassers.

And the chorus is particularly special: “So vote McGrath-aa, Independent number one, Mattie McGrath-aa, la, la, laa-la, la-la-la Mattie McGrath”.

The boxing dance comes at the end, with Fine Gael's Tom Hayes and Labour's Alan Kelly finding their names taped to Mattie's gloves.

Wow, just wow.
