Turf war in FG: 'One letter from Enda saying vote for Josepha, and one at midnight from Alan saying forget all that'
A turf war has broken out between Fine Gael headquarters and Alan Shatter over the party's vote management in Dublin Rathdown.
The party is trying to take two seats in the old Dublin South constituency with the former justice minister and running mate Josepha Madigan.
Fine Gael director of elections Brian Hayes has issued an instruction to voters in parts of the constituency to vote No 1 for Ms Madigan and No 2 for Mr Shatter.
But Mr Shatter followed up with his own leaflet in the area late last night asking for a No 1 vote.
"I am concerned some are of the view that my re-election can be automatically assumed. I never take our electorate for granted and I believe it wrong to make any such assumption," he says, calling for a No 1 vote.
A local resident told Independent.ie: "Great entertainment in Clonskeagh as two letters arrived last night, one from Enda saying vote for Josepha and one at midnight from Alan saying forget all that.
