Floating Voter Day 21: Lorraine lands One Direction for her election video - sort of...
Labour's Lorraine Higgins has released an election video featuring a snap of the senator with One Direction, but it's not the boyband heart-throbs singing her song.
"She's a strong contender, a Galway girl too. You've got something to share - Lorraine's the girl for you," signer/songwiter David Maguire croons.
"Vote Lorraaaaaa-ine, Lorraine number one. Vote Lorraaaaaa-ie, you know she's the one," the chorus goes. Floating Voter reckons they're trying to tell us something.
The video has pictures of Lorraine with President Michael D Higgins, Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Tánaiste Joan Burton as well. But it's 1-D that takes pride of place. Lorraine explains that she met them in RTE a few years ago. While she couldn't land them for her election song she said: "I wouldn't say no if they'd like to sing it to me."
Maguire "did a super job" though, she says. And why wouldn't she? The song includes the line that Galway East needs "someone young, pretty and smart."
They said what!?

All the Kildare South front-runners pop in each day for a cuppa as their "war offices" are nearby. Regular customers include Fianna Fail's Cllr Fiona O'Loughlin and Deputy Sean Ó Fearghaíl as well as Fine Gael duo Martin Heydon and Fiona McLoughlin Healy. We understand there's a protocol on the timing of their breaks and who opts for upstairs and who goes downstairs.
Politics is a risky business as Finance Minister Michael Noonan knows. Here's what he had to say a Fine Gael's big press conference yesterday.
"There are risks.
There are risks, always risks. Life is a risk. There are risks from China. There's risks from Russia. There are risks from external risks. But the external risks are not as dramatic as the internal risks. And the key internal risk at the moment is that you get political instability."
He'd put the fear of God in you.
