Elderly woman killed in single vehicle collision in Cork

A FEMALE pedestrian (70s) has been killed in a crash in Cork this evening.

She was killed in a single vehicle collision with a car which took place at approximately 7pm on the Kantark/Buttevant Road (R580).

Emergency services attended the scene in north Cork and her body was removed to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital.

Local diversions are in place and the scene has been prepared for technical examination.

Gardaí in Cork have appealed for witnesses.

“Gardaí in Mallow are appealing for anyone with information, particularly any road users who may have dash cam footage of the area from the time of the collision, to contact Gardaí in Mallow on 022 31450 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111,” said a garda spokesperson.

This is the fourth death on Cork roads this week, after a man was killed near Cork Airport after being struck by a truck on Monday and a man died on the N20 on Tuesday night.

Kimberly O’Connor (16) was killed on Thursday night in a single vehicle crash, with three other passengers hospitalised.
