An elderly woman was killed when she was hit by a car.

Gardai in Adare are investigating the fatal road traffic collision, which happened on the N20 at Ballynabanouge, Croom, Co Limerick, at approximately 7.15pm last night.

An 82-year-old was struck by a car as she crossed the road. She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was removed to Limerick Regional Hospital.

The driver of the car was uninjured and the road has since reopened.

Investigators have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Gardai are also investigating a crash which claimed the life of a 19-year-old youth and injured three others.

The teenager was a passenger in the vehicle, which struck a a wall near Four Mile House in Roscommon, yesterday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Roscommon Hospital.

Three other men, believed to be in their twenties, were travelling in the car and have been taken to hospitals in Sligo, Galway and Mullingar for treatment.
