Elderly man killed when his car struck gate at shopping centre

A man in his 70s was killed today when the car he was driving struck a service gate at the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre in Dublin.

He was the sole occupant of the car.

Gardaí  are investigating the crash which happened at around 3.45pm.

The man was taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown and pronounced dead a short time later.  

The scene of the collision was sealed off to facilitate a Garda forensic collision examination.
