Elderly man killed in two-car collision on motorway

Gardaí are investigating a crash in which an elderly man suffered fatal injuries last night.

The two car collision occurred on the M8 motorway near Cahir, Tipperary at approximately 9pm last night.

The man, aged in his late seventies, was killed when the car he was driving was involved in a collision with a second car.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Cork University Hospital.

The driver of the second car was also taken to CUH with injuries described as minor.

Gardaí are now investigating the incident.

The M8 between J11 and J12 south bound is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
