Elderly man dies in house fire in Cork

Ed Carty

AN elderly man has died in a house fire.

The blaze in a terraced house in Main Street in Rathcormac, Co Cork, was spotted at about 8pm last night.

No-one else but the 74-year-old victim was in the property at the time. Three units of the fire brigade brought the blaze under control but it was too late to save the occupant.

The man's body was removed to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

It was the second fatal house fire over the weekend following the deaths of three members of one family in Co Leitrim.

Pensioners Desmond and Patsie McDonald and their 34-year-old daughter Patricia were killed when a blaze ripped through their home.
