Elderly man dies after car collides with bin lorry

A man in his 80s has died after a car collided with a bin lorry in Co Offaly.

The car and lorry collided on Charleville Road in Tullamore at about 10am on Friday.

The car then hit a wall and the elderly man, who was the only person in the car, was taken to Tullamore General Hospital.

He was pronounced dead last night.

The lorry driver was not uninjured in the incident.

Gardaí are appealing to witnesses or anyone with any information on the incident to contact them at Tullamore Garda Station on 057-9327600, the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111 or any garda station.
