A MANSION with an original price tag of €12m has just been sold -- for over €10m less than its asking price.
Built by property developer Robert Butler, the palatial Winterwood, on the grounds of Adare Manor in Co Limerick, went on the market with an ambitious guide price of €12m in 2008.
However, yesterday a sale of around €1.9m was agreed on the 16,500 sq ft three-storey home.
Among the trappings reminiscent of the boom is the largest privately commissioned Waterford Crystal chandelier.
The property, which has never been lived in, is just one of 19 homes built on the grounds of Adare Manor owned by US millionaire businessman Tom Kane.
Constructed during the Celtic Tiger, Winterwood boasts an exceptionally lavish interior, complemented by landscape gardens over 2.8 acres.
The property's portfolio describes how Winterwood is "a stunning property in an enclave of exceptional homes in an amenity rich private setting".
Along with the eight bedrooms, it also includes five reception rooms, eight bathrooms, a sauna, jacuzzi, library, gym, drawing rooms, membership of Adare Golf Club and private parking.
The identity of the buyer remained unknown yesterday.
