An enterprising young student has plans to revolutionise the education world with a successful new interactive revision iBook.

Stephen Alger (17), a fifth-year student from Blackrock College, Dublin, established his own company Interactive Arts in 2014 from his Dún Laoghaire home.

Since then his app, iRevise Geography, has made it to the top of the iTunes book charts and he has sold "several hundred" copies of the app, which costs €6.99.

Blackrock College has recently expanded its library and begun using iPads to aid learning, which inspired the budding CEO to take a leap into the new market.

His app recently won first place in the prestigious Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Student Enterprise awards. "I got the idea from entering the Dragons Den competition in school.

"It took in and around 13 months from start to finish. I just installed an update there yesterday," he said.

Stephen gradually built up the app, providing chapters along the way while making sure the details were correct with his geography teacher.

"I never really knew if it would be a success," said the delighted student, who plans to study computer science at college.

iRevise Geography includes interactive materials like chapter tests, hi-res photos, HD video, annotation features and flashcards.

After using the app, MEP Brian Hayes said it was a great aid for education.
