Education Minister Joe McHugh today announced the 234 primary schools and 73 post-primary schools that will receive money under the Summer Works Scheme (SWS) 2019.

The SWS allows schools to carry out small and medium scale building works, that will improve and upgrade existing school buildings, such as the installation of new windows or structural improvements.

The work will be carried out in schools mainly over the summer months, so the disruption to students, teachers and other staff is kept to a minimum.

The Department of  Education is now also giving earlier notification of funding to individual schools to give principals and boards of management a better lead in time to plan and deliver  the works
