Meet the twins who achieved identical results in their Leaving Cert: 'It's the best outcome, nobody's upset!'
There was a big surprise inside the all-important results envelope for a set of Irish twins after they managed to achieve identical points in their Leaving Certificate.
Twin brothers Cathal and Patrick O'Brien (18) from Borris, Co Carlow, studied together in Clongowes Wood College for six years.
They both achieved 554 points - and they studied the exact same subjects with the exception of one.
Both students are now hoping to attend Trinity College Dublin, with Cathal aiming to study Computer Science and Patrick hoping to study Physics.
The brothers were "shocked" by the coincidence, but were delighted with their achievement having worked hard all year.
"It was a big shock. I was a bit worried going in to collect the results, so it was a big surprise when we did so well," said Cathal.
Patrick said there is a competitive element in their relationship, and this helped them both in their Leaving Cert year.
"We’re very competitive, so this is the best outcome for both of us, no one's upset."

The young Carlow man also had some advice for anyone nervous about taking the Leaving Cert in the coming year.
"Just keep up with the work, it’s not that much, just plug away at it," he said.
The twins spoke about their excitement for their upcoming first year in college where they plan to have a good balance between study and fun.
